My Country

The name of our country is the People's Republic of Bangladesh. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Our country was a part of Pakistan before 1971. Then we freed our country and achieved victory after nine month's liberation war. 3 million people sacrificed their lives in the liberation war in 1971. Our independence day is 26th March and Victory day is 16th December. The national language of our country is Bangla. It is also a matter of great pride for us that we are the only nation who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their mother tongue in  21st February of 1952. In order to show respect to them, UNESCO has declared 21st February as International Mother Language Day. The name of the capital of Bangladesh is Dhaka. It is the busiest and populated city of our country. The total population is 16 crore.It's area is 1,47,570 square kilometres.Dhaka is the capital of our country.Bangladesh is a land of over population.More than 13 crore people live here.Most of them are Muslims.The others are Hindus,Buddhist and Christians.People of all communities live here with peace and amity.

The state language of the county is Bangla.There are also a number of tribal dialects.The national dress for men is payjama and punjabi and for women,sari.But the estate people wear shirts and trousers and young women salwar and kamiz.Most people wear lungi and shirt.

Bangladesh has an age old tradition and customs.People observe different festivals on different occasions.The most common customs and traditions the people observe are Pahela Baishakh,Nabanna,Pahela Falgun etc.Since Bangladesh is the darling child of nature,she has got some  attractive tourist spots which are full of natural scenic beauty.So the country has many tourist spots.They are Cox's Bazar sea beach,Kuakata,the Sundarbans,the tea gardens of Sylhet are very attractive.

There are many poets in Bangladesh. Sufia Kamal and Shamsur Rahman are the most famous. Kazi Nazrul Islam, who died a few years ago, is our National poet Jasimuddin was also a great poet.

Bangladesh is a land of rivers.The Padma,the Meghna and the Jamuna are the big rivers of the country.Her land is very fertile.The economics of this country is mainly based on agriculture.Various kinds of crops and fruits are grown here.Rice is our staple food and jute and tea are our main cash crops.Mangoes,jack-fruits,pineapples,papaws,coconuts,oranges,palms,guavas,bananas are very delicious and nutritious fruits of Bangladesh.

The main food that the inhabitant of this country eat is rice and fish. Hilsha is the national fish and Doyel is the national bird of our country. The national beast of the country is the Royal Bengal Tiger. The national bird of our country is Doyel and national flower is Shapla. Hadudu is the national game of our country but Cricket is the most popular game.

There are six seasons in our country.They are summer,rain,autumn,late autumn,winter and spring.Every year natural calamities like flood,cyclone,draught etc visit this country.It's climate hot and humid.

Bangladesh is land of natural beauty.Numerous trees of different sizes have enchanced the beauty to a great extent.Flowers are the special gifts of nature.They have added beauty to the country offering their varied colour,sweet smell and excellent charm.

Though Bangladesh is an uncommonly beautiful country, most of its people live below the poverty line. They work very hard, yet they do not have enough to eat. The reason is that we are too many people for this small land. However, our government has started a campaign for poverty. Alleviation and some pragmatic steps have been taken in this respect. We hope that our country will be free from hunger and poverty by the early part of the 2Ist century.
